His full name is Ayyūb ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Sulaymān Ishāq. He was born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa in 1381 A.H./1961 C.E.
Qāri Ayyūb’s initial studies in Qur`ānic recital, fiqh, ˘aqīdah, amongst other Islamic sciences, were completed under the auspices of Sheikh Muhammad Yūsuf Mulla. It was also at his hands that at the age of fourteen, he had memorized the Qur`ān. During this time he completed his tertiary education. Thereafter he spent a year with Sheikh Ismā`īl Katrada revising the Qur`ān.
In 1978 C.E. he enrolled at Dār al-˘Ulūm Falāh al-Dārayn in Gujarat, India. Here he gained proficiency in the Arabic language, fiqh, tafsīr, hadith, philosophy, and so on. Under the expert tutelage of Qāri Anīs Ahmad Khān, at this madrasah, he studied tajwīd and qirā`āt. The books studied by him comprise of Urdu as well as Arabic works. They include Miftāh al-Qur`ān, Fawā`ide Makkiyyah, Khulāsah al-Bayān, the Muqaddimah al-Jazariyyah, al-Fawā`id al-Tajwīdiyyah. The methodology adopted by Qāri Anīs in teaching these works were that a student read a portion of the book to him after which Qāri Anīs would explain all matters pertaining to the portion read regarding those issues upon which the qurrā` agree, those issues in which they disagree, the grammar of the verses, the opinions of various commentators and so forth. His manner of expression was clear so that the student could easily grasp all the discussions deliberated. Qāri Ayyūb spent eight years under the skilled training of Qāri Anīs, reading the Qur`ān to him firstly combining all seven qirā`āt via the Shātibiyyah, then the ten qirā`āt via the Durrah, and thereafter the ten qirā`āt via the Tayyibah. Shaykh Qari Umer Bhula – Social inclusion advisor
Qari Umer was born in Hackney, London in 1992. He was born blind. Alhamdulillah, Qari Umer enrolled in the Hifdh ul Qur’aan course at the age of only 6 years old and completed full memorisation of The Qur’aan by the age of 13 in 2006. Thereafter, it was the wish of his parents that he should further his deeni education. At the time, there was only one specific institution which catered for blind students, in South Africa. Qari Umer enrolled in Madrasah An Noor (for the blind) in 2010, at the age of 17, undertaking the Alimiyyah course.
Alhamdulillah, upon completion of the Alimiyyah course, Qari Umer also undertook the Saba Qiraa’ah (Seven modes of Qur’aan recitation) and completed this successfully too, all in the year 2015. It was very challenging for a blind person to study this field, as there was no Kitaab to write down the ‘Ikhtilaafaat’ and had to be memorised. But Alhamdulillah, Qari Umer persevered and with The Grace of The Almighty, he successfully gained an ‘Ijaazah from the world renowned Qari Ayoob Esack, who is based in South Africa.
Upon completion of his deeni studies in South Africa, it was Qari Umer’s ambition to become a Teacher of Qur’aan. In January 2016, by The Grace of The Almighty, he was employed by Masjid e Quba Madrasah in Stamford Hill, London, as a Hifdh Class Teacher. It must be mentioned here that Qari Umer was the first ever blind Teacher to be employed within this capacity at the above institution. Alhamdulillah, amongst his teaching commitments, he is a guest Khateeb at Masjid Ramadan in Dalston, London. He always finds time to participate in local community events and is well acquainted with the youth especially.
Qari Umer plays an important role within the National Huffadh Association UK, as a Senior Qari and advisor, as well as playing the lead role of updating our media content onto our various social media channels.
We pray that The Almighty accepts his efforts and always keeps him sincere within his work.
